Notes |
| |
| |
|
| |
DOS
can only be installed onto the first physical drive. The DOS
boot record always reads sectors from the first physical hard
drive, and will behave unpredictably when booted from another
physical hard drive. |
| |
|
| |
DOS
cannot be installed into an extended or logical partition. It
will only boot from a Primary FAT partition. |
| |
|
| |
A
bug in MS-DOS and PC-DOS will prevent access to multiple primary
partitions if the last logical partition on every drive is not
FAT. Thus, if you create a primary partition for DOS, a second
primary partition for Windows 95, then install Windows NT into
an extended partition using NTFS, your DOS will have problems
accessing the Windows 95 partition. If you then create a logical
DOS drive after the NTFS drive, DOS will not have any problems
accessing the Windows 95 partition. |
| |
|
| Special
Warnings |
| |
|
| |
If
you have a single primary partition that uses all of your disk
space as NTFS or HPFS, or a hidden FAT partition that uses all
of your disk space, DO NOT install DOS onto that drive. The
MS-DOS and PC-DOS Setup program will reformat your drive to
install onto it. You must have unpartitioned space, or a MultiFAT
partition to install DOS into. |
| |
|
| |
If
you are running Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (identified
in the System icon of the control panel as version 4.00.950
B) or Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista, make sure that your installation is
not in a FAT32 partition. If it is, then the above warning also
applies to you. |
