Installation
of OS/2 after Windows NT/2000/XP |
| |
|
| |
Problem |
| |
|
During the install of OS/2 it scans the hard drive for the NT boot
and system files. Should OS/2 find any of the Windows boot or system
files it will ask you to format your hard drive or quit install. The
following steps are the best way to get around this problem.
|
| |
If
Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista is in its own primary partition |
| |
|
| |
|
| 1 |
Have your System Commander boot CD available. |
| 2 |
Boot from the CD, and select exit to DOS and run scdisk. |
| 3 |
Select
Change boot status for OS install. |
| 4 |
Press
9 to make no partitions bootable. |
| 5 |
Press Esc and answer OK to the changes that have been
made. |
| 6 |
Press
Esc to exit to the prompt. |
| 7 |
Reboot
with the install disk for OS/2. |
| 8 |
Install
OS/2 |
| |
Note:
You may get a message that you do not have any primary partition
when installing OS/2-this is OK, just continue on. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
If
Windows NT/2000/XP is booting out of the MultiFAT |
| |
|
| |
|
| 1 |
Boot
into Windows 95/98/Me or DOS in your MultiFAT. |
| 2 |
Rename
the Windows NT/2000/XP system files in the root of the MultiFAT
: |
| |
| |
boot.ini
to boot.tmp |
| |
ntdetect.com
to ntdetect.tmp |
| |
NTLDR
to ntldr.tmp |
| |
ntbootdd.sys
to ntbootdd.tmp (if it exists, not all installs have this
file) |
| |
|
|
| 3 |
Rename
the Windows directory (like WinNT) to WinTemp. |
| 4 |
Install
OS/2. |
| 5 |
When OS/2 has completed the install, restore the NT system files
and directory to their original names. |
|
| |
End
of procedure. |
| |
