- DOS

How
do I install DOS into the Windows 95/98 partition? |
| |
|
|
| |
|
Note:
If you are installing more than one operating system in the same partition,
make sure you are doing so in the MultiFat partition. This is the
partition where System Commander is installed. Also, please note that
this partition must be formatted as FAT16, otherwise DOS cannot be
installed into this partition. |

Boot
the computer with the number 1 DOS installation disk. At the
Welcome to DOS setup screen, press the F3 key twice to
exit the DOS installation, to the A:\ prompt. Keep the DOS floppy
in the drive. |
| 2 |
Type
C: , and then type CD SC <enter>. |
| 3 |
At
the C:\SC prompt, type SCIN <enter>. From the
SCIN menu, use the arrow keys to select Special Options <enter>.
Then select Transfer System (Advanced SYS) <enter>.
Next select Automatic Transfer <enter>. |
| 4 |
When
the system transfer operation is complete, press the ESC
key until you are back at the C:\SC prompt. |
| 5 |
With
the number 1 DOS installation disk still in the floppy drive,
Type A: <enter>, and then type SETUP <enter>.
Install DOS as you normally would, making sure that DOS does
not attempt to format any partitions. If DOS does prompt you
to format, exit the installation by pressing the F3 key
twice, and repeat steps 1 through 6. (If you receive a DOS message
that recommends you exit setup because you already have an operating
system installed, you can safely ignore it and continue with
the procedure because System Commander protects the installed
operating system.)
Note: If you are planning to install Windows 3.x, do
not choose Express Install, choose Custom Install and change
the default name of the Windows 3.x directory to something other
than C:\Windows. Windows 95 and Windows 3.x use the same default
directory name. If you do not change it, one will overwrite
the other. Also, during the Windows 3.x installation, you will
be offered an option to install programs on the hard drive or
will be prompted to search for installed Windows applications.
Do not select this option or let Windows 3.x do this.
It will destroy the application's functionality in Windows 95.
