San
Jose, CA – V Communications, a leading developer
and publisher of advanced software utilities, has announced
the first major upgrade in 3 years of System Commander, the
safest and easiest way to add and manage new operating systems,
without any performance degradation. System Commander 8 has
a host of new features and improvements, including the ability
to boot CDs, increased speed, support for Windows 2003 and
Longhorn and the ability to boot from dynamic disks and more.
System Commander 8 is the only OS Manager that can natively install
directly into NTFS from Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 and Longhorn. It
also supports installation from older OSes including Windows 95
through Me and even DOS. Typically adding less than a second to
the boot process, System Commander automatically detects all OSes
on a system and presents the user with available OS choices in
a skinable graphics environment.
New
with System Commander 8 is VCOM's award winning Partition Commander
8. Partition
Commander is the most powerful partitioning
tool available and is completely integrated into System Commander.
For partitioning operations, it can be run from the hard disk or
from the System Commander boot CD, even if no OS is currently working.
In addition to safe partition resize, copy, and move features for
Windows, Linux and more, users can safely resize NTFS clusters,
convert NTFS Dynamic disk into basic NTFS, resize Linux Ext2, Ext3
and ReiserFS partitions and much more. VCOM’s exclusive BackStep
Wizard™ lets users undo partitioning operations, further
enhancing system safety.
System
Commander 8 is the latest release of the popular System Commander
product,
which has sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide. “When
you want to upgrade to, or just try out a new OS, often undesired
conflicts appear. But with System Commander installed these conflicts
are completely avoided,” noted
Travis
Sehestedt, vice-president of sales and marketing for V Communications. “In addition to upgrading or trying new OSes,
like Longhorn, System Commander is ideal when you must have multiple
OSes installed on a single PC for training, testing, development
and other applications,” concluded Sehestedt.
System Commander 8 supports all PC compatible operating systems,
uses no resident memory, requires less than 20MB of disk space
and converts partitions between FAT and FAT 32 and between NTFS
and FAT32, including compressed NTFS volumes.
“System Commander is unique in the fact that it requires
absolutely no system resources or overhead from your OSes, unlike
other, more expensive approaches,” said Frank van Gilluwe,
president of V Communications.
System Commander 8 also includes improvements to the patented
OS Wizard?, which is used to automate the preparation of a drive
for a new OS. These features and new enhancements make System Commander
8 the most powerful operating system manager on the market. The
retail price of System Commander 8, which includes a free copy
of Partition Commander 8, is only $69.99. Current System Commander
7 users may upgrade to System Commander 8 for just $34.99 plus
shipping. System Commander 8 is now shipping and will be available
in select retail stores mid-July 2004.
