PC EXPO 2001,
NY, NY
- Today V Communications announced that CD Anywhere, a program that
both creates multiple CD Anywhere software drives and saves CD images
to a hard disk, will be available in retail outlets at the end of
July, 2001. Users can save CD audio, programs, data, games and DVDs
to a compressed image stored on the hard disk. Multiple CD images
can be accessed at the same time. CD Anywhere will be available
in personal and network versions as well as an OEM version for PC
and laptop manufacturers.
"The flexibility
gained by an inexpensive software product that eliminates the need
to keep CD's around is very attractive for the way business is done
today," noted Jeffrey Hyman, V Communications vice president
of marketing. "It doesn't matter whether it's music or a critical
software application, with CD Anywhere, the computer can't tell
that the CD isn't actually in the drive. Our compression scheme
makes it possible to have any number of CD's on your hard drive
without carrying the CDs themselves," concluded Hyman.
For audio applications,
CD Anywhere makes images of audio CDs. Users can select tracks to
save, and specify the type of compression to use. The created images
can be changed at any time, including the removal or addition of
audio tracks. For programs, such as an office suite, Windows, or
other CD programs that require access to the CD even after installation,
the CD Anywhere image eliminates the hassles and delay of finding
and reinstalling these CDs. Once a compressed image is made, and
loaded into any one of CD Anywhere's drives, the system sees the
CD image as a physical CD. The system has no knowledge that a physical
CD is not running, and Explorer, Run, or any other Windows tools
see the CD image as a real CD.
CD Anywhere's minimum configuration is a Pentium or better and it
requires 16 MB RAM. CD Anywhere Personal Edition works with Windows
95/98/Me/NT/2000 Workstation. CD Anywhere supports most standard
CD formats, including data formats such as ISO9660, Audio (CDDA,
MP3), VCD, data DVDs, mixed mode CDs, and multi-session CDs. The
physical product will ship with WindowsÒ Media Player 7.1,
Windows Media Encoder 7.1 and RealÒ Player/Jukebox 8. Users
can purchase CD Anywhere personal edition for $39.95, or download
the electronic version for $29.95. Both English and Spanish versions
are available.
