San Jose,
CA - Today V Communications announced the release of PC Upgrade
Commander, the point and click way to automatically and safely upgrade
to a new computer or laptop. PC Upgrade Commander transfers preferences,
settings, work files, folders, sounds, themes, favorites, applications
and more. PC Upgrade Commander copies all of the programs and data
files from the original computer (including the Registry settings
needed to make those programs work on the new system) while leaving
all of the new computer's preinstalled software intact. It works
between systems with different or the same Windows operating systems
and can make transfers via network, parallel cable or via Jaz, Orb,
or Zip drives.
"Upgrading
to a new computer has always been a time consuming hassle,"
noted Jeffrey Hyman, V Communications vice president of marketing.
"PC Upgrade Commander is a welcome addition to our line of
computer management products because it substantially reduces the
difficulty and effort needed to get programs, existing files, and
data to work on a new machine. Accurate and uncomplicated data transfer
is critical, but new setups are even more difficult if you want
the new computer to mirror your old PC with its desktop wallpaper,
screen saver, sounds and favorites. With PC Upgrade Commander, what
would have taken days, now happens automatically, in as little as
an hour or so, depending on the amount of data to transfer. At $49.95,
that's a real bargain," concluded Hyman.
With PC Upgrade
Commander, upgrading to a new PC couldn't be easier. With the software
installed on both the old and new PCs, the 'Transfer Wizard' guides
you through the process. PC Upgrade Commander analyzes each application
and all data and settings as if they were rooms in a house. Then
it safely 'packs' up the items, loads them into a 'removal van'
and sends them to the new PC, where it safely distributes them to
the correct locations. It even knows to leave unnecessary, unused
remnants of old files, recycle bins and applications behind so that
they are not transferred to the new PC or laptop. Once the transfer
is complete, the new PC is rebooted and all applications and data
are there in the exact same directories that they were on the original
system. Finally, the original PC is left untouched so it can be
used as a backup.
PC Upgrade Commander's
minimum configuration is a Pentium or better and it requires 16
MB RAM. PC Upgrade Commander works with Windows (95/98/ME/NT/2000).
Users can purchase PC Upgrade Commander for $49.95, or download
the electronic version for $39.95.
